The importance of a balanced diet can never be
over-emphasized. It you wish to maintain a healthy lifestyle
you have to eat well. A good diet keeps you in good health
and makes you strong and active. Your body needs different
foods because each food group offers special nutrients and
vitamins that make up an ideal diet. Of course, your
specific needs may vary from what others need, but a
nutritious diet is unmistakably the mantra of good health.
A healthy diet is also the gateway to attaining healthy
levels of weight. In fact, most of the problems in all age
groups are related to weight. The disease of diabetes for
that matter is also attributed generally to being overweight
and bad eating habits and unhealthy lifestyle. The other
diseases that might result from excessive weight are back
and leg pain. A healthy diet would go a long way in avoiding
most of these ailments.
Weight affects lifestyle as well. One who carries extra
weight due to an unhealthy diet may not be able to enjoy
some activities. Many people who are overweight find it
difficult to keep up with their children or grandchildren.
Getting around can be difficult, and sometimes it is hard
to find accommodations when out of the house. Eating well
and watching your diet can help you maintain a physical
form that allows you to enjoy life to its fullest.
Other areas that a balanced diet helps in include proper
nutrition for the correct functioning of the body. Intake
of calcium from dairy foods helps promote strong bones and
prevent osteoporosis (the weakening of the bones). Too
much, however, can result in kidney stones. Moderation is
key in all food choices. Fruits and vegetables provide
fiber to help with digestion and a variety of minerals and
vitamins that help prevent cancer and that help with
eyesight, preventing bruising, and other uses. Grains
provide the fuel for the body, as well as contributing
fiber (from whole grains), iron, and some vitamins. Protein
from meats and/or legumes helps build muscle. While a
multivitamin can help you supplement your food, it is best
to get most of your nutrition from a healthy diet.
A balanced diet is important to promote good health and a
healthy lifestyle. And it doesn't take much effort to eat a
balanced diet. In fact, you can occasionally indulge in some
junk food also, provided you take care of yourself with a
staple diet that consists of beneficial foods.
